I have wanted a blog for sweet Kia for a long time. So I am just going to jump right in and try to keep things moving. Kia is 11 and a half years old now. He has cancer, but it seems like it is under control for now. He had a full set of tests at Blue Pearl last week and was pronounced great! The problem is Since he had anal gland adenocarcinoma his lymph glands near his back legs are the likely place to see new problems. So every trip to the vet ends up with his belly getting shaved. I was worried that he was cold last winter between the harsh weather, the naked belly and the much-lighter than usual coat he grew since he was undergoing chemo at the beginning of winter. Here are a few attempts to keep him warm:
This is his hunting season vest, you can see quite a bit of him sticking out the back end. Not quite what I had in mind. good for convincing hunters that he isn't Bambi, but not so great at protecting his delicate and exposed parts. Next,
my down vest. Warm enough, covers about as much as can be covered. Except I end up washing it every time because he just can't help but drip on it when he pees.
Not to get too exciting, but as soon as I get home from work while it is still light or it isn't pouring on the weekend I will show you the final selection in broad daylight (which will mean he won't turn his back to avoid the flash) Hopefully it won't take me a year to make the next post.
Nice to meet you kia. Those are some cool jackets to keep you warm

Hi Kia
ReplyDeleteWe know about that peeing problem. Fudge is wearing a tee shirt to protect his incisions. Mom puts a chip clip on top to keep it away from his belly. It. works pretty well. Can't wait to see your new jacket.
